showcase!

It's weird that the showcase is over and there's no more concentrations to do.
The last few months have been so full of art that not stressing (or obsessing) over some piece is foreign, now!

april

April's almost over.
OH GOD.
I've got a lot to do.
I should bring in my other concentration pieces.
Nrh.
Why must I work so slow?
This is lame.
47-ish days left, sweet.

whoa.

Random, old still life drawing. Charcoal and oil pastel.

Last quarter of high school, holy cow.

I'm thinking of doing something with ice or condensation for my next piece.

Maybe try using more dry media, but I don't know.

concentration update!

My shell! I like doing pen and ink drawings. At least I didn't use stippling for this one (although, come to think of it, I think I may have used it for like a teensy part of it??)

Maybe I should do another piece with a palette knife, or at least something like it. It was fun, and different than my more detailed, obsessive stuff...

february critique

My concentration is water, using line and movement.

This first piece of mine is from a picture taken from our field trip to the zoo. It's a reflection of a puddle on wood. Overall, I like how this piece turned out. It took a lot of time but I believe it worked out alright. I like the rings made by the rain/snow drop, and I like the contrast in colors, mostly. One part that bothers me most is the abrupt line on the far left side, even though that is how it was in the picture. The upper right corner also bothers me, and it was difficult to do, so I am open to suggestions to make it better/more realistic. That was most frustrating because that entire side was mostly reflected by water and so it was lighter than the rest of the wood, but still dark. Another part that bothered me was that this piece is more of a 'stand back and look at it' piece, because closer up it's confusing to make out what the painting is of.

My second piece is also from the field trip from the zoo. I took a photo of the horizon line between underwater and above water. The above part was actually underneath a waterfall, as well. I don't like this piece at all, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that I didn't have a lot of time to work on it, given that I spent so much time on my first piece. I plan to go back and finish/improve this one, definitely, so any suggestions help. I think what is most frustrating on this piece is that I don't think it looks at all like it supposed to. I think that if I go back in and add certain details to it, I'd like this piece better, but as of right now, I really do not like it.

I need to go through the zoo pictures for this next piece.
I know what I want to have, it's just a matter of finding it.
And now I can use pictures from camping at the beach this weekend, so that helps, too.
Yay for water?

january.

My attempt for my piece number...six(?):
kind of that bubbles thing,
except only using a
palette knife

thus, I can't exactly be as obsessive as usual,
but I'm trying to expand.
I kind of like how it looks right now,
even thought it's ridiculously messy
(at least by my standards).
I'll try to get a pic up soon, I guess....
